A new clay scuplture of the head of a man whose body was found in the Scioto River in June 1975 is the latest effort by investigators in Ross County to identify him.

A fisherman found the body snagged in the river just north of Chillicothe 36 years ago. The body, believed to be a white man in his late 30s around 6 feet tall, was badly decomposed.

Last November the Ross County Coroner's office exhumed the body to try again to identify the man. The remains were sent to the Hamilton County Coroner's office for a second autopsy. DNA was also collected in hopes it might help lead to clues. Final results still haven't come in.

A forensic artist from the Broward County Sheriff's office in Florida recreated the man's face based on photos and the actual skull.

"It’s great to finally have a face for our John Doe, but I won’t be satisfied until we can get him identified and return him to his family. I believe there is a family out there that has been searching for years; I hope and pray that we can end their search soon." said Mike Ratliff, investigator for the Ross County Coroner.

The goal is to return the man's remains to his family. Investigators are searching through old missing person cases hoping to find a match.
