It is budget review time for county department heads all over Ohio, and in Ross County, one of the larger department budgets is for county sheriff.
Sheriff George Lavender doesn't expect to see too big of a change from last year. The days of the county jail being a "cash cow" in housing federal inmates ended, when the Feds started housing prisoners north of I-70.
Ross County Sheriff George Lavender says his department has expanded the capability of housing female inmates, which has brought them some business from surrounding counties. Lavender says many counties don't have the capacity to house both male and female prisoners, which results in Ross County becoming an options.
