State Patrol officials are asking motorists to drive responsibly during the holidays.

"Holiday season is one of family and celebration and so forth, and we just want it to be done responsibly and safely," said Sgt. Tim Karwatske, of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

He said the state's force is conducting a weekend enforcement blitz through Sunday night. Sgt. Karwatske added motorists need to practice safe driving habits and obey the law no matter where they are driving.

"As long as it's a public highway, whether it's a township road or an interstate, we have jurisdiction and we can enforce law out there," said Sgt. Karwatske, "and you'll find us out there on the back roads once in a while, so you always have to be careful in what you're doing."
