The City of Chillicothe is closing Yoctangee Park to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic on Monday so that crews can remove trees that have been invaded by the Emerald Ash Borer. Officials say they'll begin work at 7am, Monday, and it will take most of the day to complete.

The site must be blocked off from traffic and the power lines removed. The trees must then be safely removed, cut up or chipped, moved, and the site restored. This project is weather dependent, with January 29 set for a rain date.

Late last year, AEP Ohio offered to help the City and the City Tree Commission with donation of expertise, equipment, time and labor to remove approximately 16 of the biggest and most potentially hazardous trees at Yoctangee Park.

The City is also working with Glatfelter to purchase the pulp wood and market the logs, depending upon their condition.
