A stand-off that lasted several hours involving a Waverly man with a gun, ended without injury Sunday. 

Waverly Police were called to 602 Walnut Street late Saturday night on a report of a man having fired a gun and making threats toward others in the home. The subject, identified as 62-year-old Michael Blevins, had barricaded himself inside the home. Several attempts to call the residence to speak with Blevins, were unsuccessful over several hours.

Since Blevins had already fired a shot, police decided to gain entry to the residence with the use of a small robot, after several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

After discovering that Blevins was inside the home, a larger robot was sent in, which led to Blevins opening up fire with a small caliber pistol. A short time later, an entry team involving the Ohio Highway Patrol and Pike County Sheriff entered the house and took Blevins into custody. 

Due to health issues and Blevins being highly intoxicated, he was taken to Adena Pike Medical Center as a precautionary measure, where he was also to be evaluated by mental health officials before being transported to jail.

A search warrant was issued for the residence, where police found several firearms.

Blevins was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance and vandalism of government property.
