The future for Chillicothe City Schools looks a little brighter today, after voters approved a tax levy increase by a margin of only 34 votes. It represents the first increase for the city schools in many years. The ballot box win comes after several million dollars worth of cuts in the last few years. Superintendent Jon Saxton says they will be able to keep art, phys ed, maintain their strings program and some classified positions.
Also in Ross County, Kingston Village tax levy failed 67-42.
In Pike County, the incumbent mayor Greg Kempton survives a Democrat Party primary challenge, winning over councilman Forrest Blakeman 475-188. Council races saw wins for Mary Ellen Cormany and Steve Fisher.
In Pickaway County, residents in Orient voted 38-30 to "disband" as an incorporated village.
