Pickaway County, like most local governments, has seen some significant reductions in revenue in the past couple years. But at the same time, there has been a positive increase in the sales tax, which is higher than expected.
As revenue started to decrease, the board, as well as the previous board, started keeping a tighter eye on the budget, reviewing it every quarter. They have also done things like take 4% of every sales tax and casino tax revenue that they receive and put the funds into the capital budget. By Building up a reserve, it allows them to be able to plan for larger building projects and keep places like the courthouse, and other areas that people commonly use, in good order.
Pickaway County has completed some short-term projects like moving the entire engineering department and relocating the law library.
The county is working on new projects such as Progress Parkway, a new jobs ready site behind Wal-Mart on US 23.
The county also has a plan in place to have the courthouse become a true justice center with everything under the same roof.
