2012 Ross County Fair Queen Leah Uhrig will be serving as a member of the Ohio State Junior Fair Board this summer, and she is one of two females in Ross County history known to serve at the state level.
"It's an absolute huge honor that I owe to so many people," said Uhrig. "I'm hoping that we get a lot more people from of Ross County involved at the state level after me."
In being part of the 21-member state board, Uhrig will be staying at the state fair for two weeks. She will help with various events before returning to Ross County for the August 3-10 fair, which she will open as queen and will serve throughout the week as the Ross County Junior Fair Board President.
Uhrig said all of the responsibilities can get overwhelming at times: "But thanks to all the people in Ross County that I've worked with through 4-H and Junior Fair groups and committees, I feel prepared for it."
Uhrig, a 2013 graduate of Unioto High School, begins college this fall at The Ohio State University.
