Now that most of the fall high school sports teams are practicing for their upcoming seasons, athletes and parents need to be reminded about how to prevent and treat injuries.
Dr. Eric Schiffman of Adena Bone & Joint Center says the most common sports injuries start with ankle injuries, which are the most common reason for athletic injuries. Other frequent injuries involve knees, shoulder and concussions.
New state regulations call for stricter procedure in treating young athletes with suspected concussion injuries.
Schiffman believes proper conditioning prior to competition and plenty of stretching of muscles can go a long way into preventing many injuries.
