Two people died Saturday in separate one-vehicle crashes on State Route 28. One of those occurred between Lyndon and Greenfield in Ross County and the other near Leesburg in Highland County.
Trooper Markowski of the Chillicothe Post reports that at approximately 3:20pm, 61-year-old Carmen Boggs of Greenfield was traveling east on State Route 28 near Bayless Road in Ross County. Mrs. Boggs ran off the right side of the roadway, over corrected and came back onto the road, off the left side of the roadway striking a tree.
Trooper Markowski says she was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the passenger side window, pinning her between the vehicle and a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the accident is not known and is under investigation.
A separate crash took the life of a Greenfield woman near Leesburg Saturday, just after noon.
53-year-old Pauline Caton was driving a Dodge Caravan westbound on State Route 28 near the intersection of Ringer Lane, just east Leesburg, when she traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol report Caton was wearing her seatbelt and that two children in the vehicle, ages 4-years and 6 moths, were also restrained.
Several people who witnessed the accident were able to get to the vehicle immediately after impact and were able to remove the children. They were unable to remove Mrs. Caton.
Sgt. Frank Simmons of the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Patrol said Mrs. Caton was pronounced dead at the scene. Both children were transported to the Adena Greenfeld Medical Center where they were treated and released.
The Highland County Coroners office was called to the scene, along with the Highland County Sheriffs office, Leesburg EMS, and the Ohio State Patrol. Investigator Dick Donley of the coroners office was also on scene. The body was taken to the Montgomery county morgue in Dayton, Oh.
At this time the cause of the accident has not been determined and the accident remains under investigation.
