The Westfall Mustangs scored what would be the winning touchdown with 7:35 left in a 28-23 back-and-forth contest against the Adena Warriors Friday to clinch at least a share of the SVC crown.

Adena jumped-out to a 10-0 lead, with Westfall then scoring 20 unanswered points  for a 20-10 halftime lead. The Warriors scored a third quarter TD then another with 8:32 left in the game for a 23-20 lead. But, it took the Mustangs less than one minute to score on a two play drive for the lead they would hold for the win.

Adena opened the scoring with a 73-yard TD run by Ryan Wells on their first play from scrimmage, then kicked the PAT for a 7-0 lead. Wells added a 30-yard field goal at 1:31 left in the first quarter for a 10-0 advantage, capping a 75-yard drive in 14 plays.

Westfall then took over the game, scoring on the next three possessions, on drives of 48 yards, 42 yards and 63 yards for a 20-10 lead. Those scores came on a 1-yard run by Trent Williamson, then TD passes to Bobby Staten from 16 yards and a 49 yard score to Cody See.

Adena cut the margin to 20-17 with an 11-yard run by Wells midway through the third quarter, then another 1-yard run to cap off a 63-yard drive in 18 plays. The PAT was blocked for a 23-20 Adena lead.

It took the Mustangs just two plays to get the go-ahead score, going 58 yards and scoring on a 44-yard run by Luke Cline.

Westfall finished with 308 total yards, 143 rushing and 10/20 passing for 165 yards. Trent Williamson rushed 24 times for 84 yards.

Adena had 297 total yards, with 247 rushing. 208 of those came from Ryan Wells on 32 carries, scoring three TD's.

The Warriors were hurt by 3 turnovers, including an interception after the Warriors were at midfield on the last play of the game. Westfall had two turnovers.

Westfall improves to (6-0/8-1) and Adena falls to (2-4/3-6). The Mustangs go for the Gold Football as they host Huntington Friday in the regular season finale in the WKKJ Game of the Week.
