Three teams now crowd the top of the SVC Girls Basketball standings after Zane Trace handed Adena their first conference loss in two years Tuesday night in Frankfort.

The ZT 33-30 win, combined with a Unioto 69-45 win over Southeastern, places Adena and Unioto as co-leaders at (7-1) with Zane Trace one back at (6-2). The Lady Pioneers travel to Unioto Thursday, in a game to be broadcast on 94 Country WKKJ and IHeart Radio.

As the top two defensive teams in the SVC, Adena and Zane Trace lived-up to that billing in the low scoring contest.

Zane Trace won the game with an almost unheard of 6/14 performance from the field for 43%- including 2/4 from the arc, but were big at the foul line at 19/22.

Adena was held to 12/41 from the field- including 2/14 from the arc for only 29%. They were also just 4/7 at the charity stripe. Zane Trace committed 9 turnovers to Adena's 7, but also out-rebounded the Lady Warriors 18-16.

ZT junior Kylan Strausbaugh led the game with 15 points, 11 in the second half. Hayle Carle added 9 points.

Natalie Cooper led Adena with 11 points, while last year's SVC Player of the Year Jenny Grigsby was checked on 9 second half points.

Zane Trace led 7-6 after one quarter, but Adena was up 10-8 at halftime and 22-20 after three. Adena's biggest lead came at 22-15 late in the third period, before ZT went on a 9-0 scoring run to take a 26-22 lead. That extended to 30-24 late in the fourth quarter, only to see the two-shade-blue battle back to within 30-29 and 31-30. ZT was able to put the game away at the foul line to hand Adena their first SVC loss in two years. 

Adena was (14-0) last year and started (7-0) this season before suffering the Tuesday set-back.
