Only one of three SVC boys basketball teams playing for Division 3 sectional championships Friday, came away with a win.
The Southeastern Panthers win the Athens Upper Bracket title with a 65-47 victory over Wellston. At Waverly, Paint Valley fell to #9 state ranked Eastern Brown 67-40 and Huntington was throttled by North Adams 65-30.
SOUTHEASTERN 65, WELLSTON 47
The Panthers shook-off a slump that has plagued them the last few weeks of the regular season, to beat the Rockets.
Southeastern led at every stop Friday, 19-11 after one quarter, 28-17 at half, 43-32 after three periods and the final of 65-47.
SE had four players in double figures as Austin Hice and Dylan Miles led the way with 16 points each, Nick Kellough added 12, Kannon Strausbaugh 10 and Jordan Allen with 8.
The (11-11) Panthers connected on 18/33 at the free throw line to help them earn a trip to the OU Convo March 2nd, where they face Eastern Brown, who blasted Paint Valley 67-40.
EASTERN BROWN 67, PAINT VALLEY 40
The (21-2) Warriors of Eastern Brown pulled away from a 5-5 tie early in the game with the Bearcats, grabbing a 21-5 lead after one quarter and 34-22 at half. That lead expanded to 58-34 after three then won going away 67-40.
Nathan Scott scored 17 points for Eastern, while Chase Lawson added 10. Clay Stratton and Mason McCloy led the PV offense with 15 and 11 points respectively.
Eastern Brown shot 28/53 from the field- including 4/13 from the arc for 51% while the (8-16) Bearcats were 16/36- including 4/13 from the arc for 44%. Paint Valley was hampered by 23 turnovers.
NORTH ADAMS 65, HUNTINGTON 30
The Huntsmen simply could not get anything going offensively Friday, shooting a ice-cold 9/34 from the field for 26%. That included 2/9 from the arc. North Adams was 20/43- including 5/8 from the arc for 47%. The Green Devils were also aided by 20/31 at the foul line compared to Huntington's 10/24.
Two Devils were in double figures, led by Kris King's 20 points and 18 from Seth Sparks.
Huntington's leaders were Jacob Kellough Elijah Shanks with 8 points each. Shanks also had 9 rebounds, as they finish at (8-14) on the season as North Adams improved to (13-10).
