Two 20-plus-win teams will be featured as Adena faces Beverly Fort Frye in the Girls Division 3 Regional Semis at 6:15pm Wednesday inside Logan High School.
Both teams are known for defense, while the (23-3) and #11 state ranked Lady Cadets might have more offense going in their favor this season.
The (22-2) Lady Warriors are averaging 49 points per game, while yielding only 33 points per contest. Adena's two regular season losses came to Miami Trace and Zane Trace.
On the other side of the coin, Fort Frye is outscoring opponents by a per game average of 68-35 this season and have pummeled tournament opponents 257-128. Their toughest outing proved to be their district championship win, where they needed a winning basket in the closing seconds from 5'10 senior Taylor Buchanan to edge (14-11) West Muskingum 47-45. Their three regular season losses were to Eastern Meigs 52-49, Hannibal River 46-42 and Saint Joseph Central in Huntington, WV 63-52.
The Lady Cadets feature two players that have scored over 1,000 points in their career in seniors Taylor Buchanan and Deidra Combs. Buchanan recently committed to play college basketball for Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida.
Two-time SVC Player of the Year and 1,000 career point scorer- Jenny Grigsby, a senior, is averaging 16 points/8 rebounds per game to lead Adena. All SVC-All District senior Natalie Cooper is averaging 10 points/7 rebounds per contest and is coming-off a 16 point/9 rebound performance in the district title win against Ironton.
Wednesday's game can be heard live on 94 Country WKKJ and worldwide on IHeart Radio with airtime at 6pm.
The second semifinal game features unbeaten Proctorville Fairland against Johnstown Monroe at 8pm. The gym at Logan High School will be emptied after the first game and will require a second ticket to enter for the nightcap.
