The first round of Scioto Valley Conference volleyball is in the books with the Westfall Mustangs unbeaten following a four set win Tuesday against Adena 26-24, 25-18, 11-25, 25-16.
Amanda Curry led the way with 21 kills and Hannah Phillips added 13. Denise Arledge led the defensive effort, according to Coach Jessica Rodgers.
The first set stayed close, but Westfall got to double set point at 24-22, before the Warriors tied it at 24-24. A serving error followed by a hitting error gave the Mustangs Set One 26-24.
Set Two saw Westfall build late leads of 20-14 and 24-17 before winning 25-18.
Set Three was a turn-around for Adena, getting out to an 8-0 lead and never was in trouble as they won 25-11.
The Mustangs pulled away early in Set Four, building leads of 9-5, 15-7 and 19-9, before finishing the set and match 25-16.
Westfall improves to (7-0/9-0) and Adena drops to (4-3/10-5) on the season. The Mustangs open second round play at home Thursday against (6-1) Zane Trace, who lost to the Mustangs in a five set thriller to open the season at ZT.
