Saturday saw several area teams win section championships, including a big day for the Scioto Valley Conference.
In Volleyball Division 2, Unioto wins a sectional crown with a four-set win over Waverly, as Zane Trace was swept by Athens in three.
In Division 3 Volleyball, Westfall swept Lucasville Valley Valley and ditto for Adena over Piketon. One side-note for Piketon was that senior Aleah Pelphrey collected her 1,000th career kill. Huntington beat Northwest in straight sets. Southeastern fell to Alexander in straight sets.
District Semis for Division 2 now pits Unioto against Washington CH on Wednesday at Southeastern High School as the second match that night, immediately following the 6pm match. 94 Country WKKJ will broadcast the Shermans vs Blue Lions.
District Semis for Division 3, starts with Huntington facing Wheelersburg Tuesday at Waverly High School at 6pm. WKKJ airtime will be at 5:45pm. On Wednesday, SVC Champ Westfall battles Meigs at 6pm, with WKKJ airtime at 5:45pm. Then Thursday, Adena plays OVC Champ Fairland in the second match that night, with WKKJ airtime at approximately 7:30pm.
Division 4 sees Paint Valley going against Eastern Meigs Thursday in the second match that night from Jackson High School. WKKJ will have score updates during the Adena match, which is broadast due to WKKJ's long-standing policy of broadcasting the higher regular season SVC record, whenever there is a broadcast time conflict.
District championships at all sites will be Saturday.
In Boys soccer, Unioto claimed a D-2 Sectional crown with a 7-3 win over McClain, but the news wasn't as good for Zane Trace, falling in the D-3 District Semis to Leesburg Fairfield 6-5 in a shoot-out, after the score was even 1-1 headed to the shootout.
