Cavalier Club Fish Fry
The Chillicothe Cavalier Club Fish Fry will be held September 5th prior to the home football game at Herrnstein Field. Times will be 4pm-7pm. See Cavalier Club members for tickets.
Pancake Breakfast
The Youth of Zion baptist Church will conduct a Pancake Breakfast at Chillicothe's "Max & Erma's" September 6th from 8:30am-10:30am. All you can eat for $5 with proceeds benefiting the youth group.
Low Stress Cattle Handling Workshop

Less stress for cattle can mean less stress for cattle producers, too. Hear why at Ohio State University’s first-ever Low Stress Cattle Handling Workshop, 9am-4pm, Saturday, September 20th at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center’s (OARDC) Jackson Agricultural Research Station in Jackson, Ohio. The topics: Cattle behavior, low-stress handling methods, and how those methods can improve the animals’ performance, health and welfare while keeping handler’s safe. Speaking will be Ron Gill, livestock extension specialist, Texas A&M University, and Curt Pate, rancher and livestock handling clinician, Helena, Mont. Cattle flight zones and other behaviors will be discussed. Effective ways to sort cattle and move cattle through working facilities will be demonstrated. Registration costs $5 per person. Lunch, given by the Jackson County Cattlemen’s Association, and refreshments, provided by the Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District, is included in the cost. Rebuild New Orleans Fundraiser at "Cross Keys"
Mardis Gras at "The Cross Keys Tavern" will benefit the rebuilding effort in New Orleans September 25th. The "Goosetown Astonishers" will perform, from 8pm-11pm September 25th. Donations will be taken at the door. 
Civic League Christmas Gala

The deadline for Grant Proceeds Applications for the annual Junior Civic League Christmas Gala is quickly approaching.  The deadline for application submission is September 1, 2008.  Packets are available at both Ross County public libraries, the offices of WCHI/WBEX/WKKJ/Ross 106.5, EM Smith Jewelers and on our website at www.juniorcivicleague.com. All Ross County-based organizations with 501 (c) (3) tax-exempt status are eligible to receive funds raised by this spectacular event.  This year's Gala will be held on November 15th, 2008 at OUC Shoemaker Center.  This will be our 20th Anniversary Gala. Fall Festival of Leaves Scholarship Pageant
Applications for the Bainbridge Fall Festival of Leaves Scholarship Pageant are available for contestants attending or recently graduated from Paint Valley, Chillicothe, Adena, McClain, Hillsboro, Huntington, Unioto or Western High Schools. Applications are available at "Out West Hair Designs" in Bourneville and "McFadden Pharmacy" in Bainbridge. They can also be downloaded off the festival website at www.fallfestivalofleaves.com  Application fees are $5 upon submitting by the September 21st deadline. Conservation League Yard Sale
Ross County Conservation League will host a huge Yard Sale at their 427 Brown Hollow Road address September 13th from 9am-4pm. There will also be food and drinks for sale.
Austin Church Chicken Bar-B-Q
Austin Methodist Church hosts their annual Chicken Bar-B-Q September 6th from 4pm-7pm. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. The church is located at the corner of Austin and Goodhope Roads.
Vinton County Air Show

The Vinton County Air Show which will be held Sunday, September 21 at the Vinton County Airport, just north of McArthur. There will be several new performers this year and a good variety of activities and treats including the airport’s famous barbecued chicken dinners. As it stands now, 3 Chinese Yaks will fly in from Michigan to demonstrate formation flying and each pilot will do an individual performance. A high performance Pitts from Indiana will perform. Military pilot Steve Larken from Parkersburg will perform for the second year and will thrill the audience with a death defying performance just as he did last year. There will be at least two radio controlled "3-D" performers who will put their model planes through their paces in maneuvers not possible in full scale planes. One RC flyer will fly his lawn mower, always a crowd pleaser. As usual, the airport’s own Screaming Chicken Skydiving team will open and close the show which will be packed from beginning to end. There will also be hang gliders and it will be possible to hitch a ride in one. Chicken dinners will be available before noon and airplane rides given by members of the Vinton County Pilots and Boosters Association will be offered after the show. A donation will be asked at the gate.

Andersonville Community Day

Community Day Saturday September 13th from 3pm to 7pm at the Andersonville United Methodist Church, 1249 Andersonville Road, Chillicothe. Chicken noodle dinner, music, games, hayride, face painting, clowns and fire trucks. Donations accepted.

Huntington Twp Fish Fry
The Huntington Township Fire & Rescue Association will be sponsoring a community Yard Sale/Flea Market and a Fish Fry September 6th from 9am-5pm.  Shrimp and BBQ will also be available. Spaces for the sale/flea makt can be reserved by calling 663-4100 and leaving a message. 
YMCA Child Care

Tyler Church Block Party

Iron Jawed Angels

Thursday, September 11th at 7pm Chillicothe Business and Professional Women along with The Ross County League of Women Voters and Chillicothe Social Society present the free showing of "Iron Jawed Angels", starring Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston, at the Majestic Theater in Chillicothe. Doors open at 6pm. The Ross County League of Women Voters will be available to register voters and Chillicothe Social Society will be providing beverage service. The story depicts the women's suffrage movement in America during the period 1912-1920. During the 2008 Presidential election it shows American's the need to exercise our constitutional rights and reminds us the sacrifices made to gain the right to vote. Gun Raffle
Scioto Township Fire & Rescue Association will conduct a Gun Raffle September 1st. The raffle involves a Remington 870 Express Combo, and you do not need to be present for the drawing. Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. Contact JoEllen at 663-5110 for more information.
Laurelville Food Pantry

The Laurelville Food Pantry is having its Semi-annual Sale in the Laurelville Church of God shelter house, 16457 St. RT. 56. It is Wednesday-Thursday, September 3rd & 4th from 9am–noon, Wednesday evening September 3rd 6pm-8pm, and Friday, September 5th; 9am-11:30am. This is a huge indoor sale with most items 10 cents. New stuff is put out daily and throughout the day. There will be good clothes for all ages, toys, shoes, household items and who knows what else. Proceeds all go to the Laurelville Food Pantry. MDA Fund Drive

Donations to The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA "Jerry's Kids") can be made at Hollywood Video between August 25th and September 24 during store hours. Please help us in this fight against Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular diseases. All proceeds and donations will go to The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA "Jerry's Kids") which will help with buying children and adults living with neuromuscular diseases to afford the medical care they need. All charitable donations will help purchase flu shots, research, support group sessions, physical/occupational/respiratory therapy, repairing wheelchairs and leg braces, assists with purchasing wheelchairs/leg braces/communication devices, and will even assist with sending children suffering from this disease to Summer Camp, where they can make new friendships with other children, helping them realize that they are not alone. All contributions are put to good use: 77% of every dollar MDA raises goes directly to research, health care services and education.

Republican Women Fall Luncheon

RoundTown Players Auditions

Auditions for the production of "The Woman in Black" will be held at Memorial Hall in the RoundTown theater auditorium September 6th at 3pm and September 7th at 7pm. "The Woman in Black" is a ghost story set in a Victorian Theater. The cast is looking for two male characters. One is a "middle-aged man" and the other a "young man".  Auditions will be cold readings from the script. A script is available at the Pickaway County Library for perusal.  Production dates will be Oct 24,25,31, Nov 1 & 2.  The RoundTown Players are located at 165 1/2 E. Main Street in Circleville.

Fall Book Discussions

Chillicothe & Ross County Public Library will host a series of Fall Book Discussions at the Northside Branch Library on Buckeye Street. The series starts at 2pm September 2nd on the book "The Hills at Home".  September 28th will be the "Little Heathers". "Twilight" will be discussed October 19th and "The Namesake" on November 9th. QuickBooks Training Workshop

The Business Development Department of the Community Action Committee of Pike County is offering a Two-and-A-Half Day QuickBooks Training Workshop. The workshop is designed to teach participants the basics of QuickBooks Pro, a computer accounting system for small business. Jimmy Dooley Concert

Jimmy Dooley will be in concert at Mt. Tabor Community Christian Church, at 6043 Mt. Tabor Road, in Chillicothe, on Sunday, August 31st at 11am.  Since the beginning of Jimmy’s music career, he has made ‘making a difference’ the focal point in his ministry. YMCA Rummage Sale
The Ross County YMCA will be holding a Rummage Sale Septembers 6th and is seeking dontaed items for the sale.  Donations can be dropped off at the YMCA from August 11th-September 3rd.  All proceeds go toward their Family Fun Week September 20th-27th.

Renaissance Singers and Friends Concert

The Renaissance Singers are pleased to announce the details of the annual "Renaissance Singers and Friends Concert". The concert will be presented at 2pm Sunday, September 28th at Bishop Flaget School. The singers will be joined by students from Bishop Flaget, as well as other musicians in the community who are asked to share their talents. This year’s theme is "Once Upon a Time." Included will be selections about fantasy, fairy tales, magic, and humor. There is no admission charge, but donations will be accepted.

End of Summer Corn Hole Tournament

The 2nd Annual End of Summer Corn Hole Tournament will be held at the Ross County Sportsman & Wildlife Club Lodge on Saturday, September 13th.  This will be a team event, with an entry fee of $25 per team for adults (18 years of age and up) and $15 per team for the youth division (17 years of age and under). Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 finishers in the adult division, and prizes will be awarded to the winning team in the youth division. Concessions and games of skill will be available. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 with the first games starting at 11 a.m. There will be a blind draw tournament held after the regular tournament. Red Cross Donations

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of disaster by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster First Capital District Chapter. Igniters Street Rods "Old Fashioned Cruise In"
Free Cruise Ins are planned for the East Main Street "McDonald's Restaurants" this summer. The events are sponsored by "Igniters Street Rods" between 6pm-10pm. Dates are: August 15th and September 19th.

Lucy Hayes Heritage Center
