More people are visting the state's tourism attractions.

Visitors to Ohio were up and so was the amount of money the state's tourism industry generated. Tourism was a $40 billion dollar industry in 2011 - a 6.5 percent increase from 2010.

State Tourism Director Amir Elyon says tourism puts Ohioans to work. That's more than $10.5 billion in payroll and nearly $3 billion in tax revenues for state and local governments.

There was also a 5 percent increase in overnight stays. Elyon says most of the state's visitors come from within 350 miles of the state's borders.
