The Produce is for qualified, low-income Ross County Residents

Free fresh fruit and vegetables will be distributed on Tuesday, May 29, to qualified, low-income Ross County residents.

The fresh produce will be available at the Salvation Army, 171 East Fourth Street, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

To be eligible, individuals must bring a photo ID and proof of residence in Ross County. They are asked to also bring heavy duty bags, boxes or carts to carry the bulk produce home.

Sponsored by the Ross County Hunger Summit and Mid-Ohio Food Bank, the distribution will be the first in a series of Produce Day events expected to continue twice monthly through October. Distribution sites for the next two events are Huntington High School on June 7 and the Chillicothe & Ross County Public Library on South Paint Street on June 21.

Convened earlier this year, the Ross County Hunger Summit is a coalition of local agencies working with other organizations and churches that distribute food through soup kitchens, food pantries, grocery vouchers or other food-related assistance. The Summit’s mission is to encourage and facilitate collaborative efforts that will help assure people in our area do not go to bed hungry.

The Hunger Summit Steering Committee members represent Ross County Community Action, Ross County Job & Family Services, Good Samaritan Food Network, Salvation Army, Assistance House, RossGo, Chillicothe & Ross County Public Library, Adena Health System, OSU Extension Family & Consumer Sciences, and United Way of Ross County.
