Joseph Steele was arrested for breaking into a shed, Wednesday.

A Chillicothe citizen helped authorities track down a suspected thief, early Wednesday. The witness, Gavin Campos, reported two men were breaking into an East 2nd Street shed just after midnight. Campos then got onto his bicycle and chased the subjects; however, he said they eventually dropped the stolen goods and jumped a fence. He was able to tip police to one suspect in the area of East Second and Poplar.

After a short chase, authorities were able to catch 34-year-old Joseph Steele, of Black Run Road, who was identified as one of the subjects.

He was placed under arrest for an active warrant, breaking and entering, and obstructing official business.

He denied stealing the items, which included a lawn chair, croquet set, golf bag with clubs, battery charger, air compressor, and lawn mower, and were found 50 yards from the owner's property.

According to the report, Steele said that he was in the area trying to buy marijuana and that he steals from businesses but not from people.

The second subject remains unidentified and at large.
