A Chillicothe Police Officer was bitten by a pit bull on Saturday.
Officers were contacted by Jamie Cottrell on Saturday the 16th. Jamie stated someone had his cell phone that went missing at the City Pool on Friday. That person told him and a friend to walk eastbound on Main Street and bring $75 to get the phone back.
The Officer placed the friends purple sweat shirt on to conceal his uniform and walked with Jamie down the street.
The suspect identified as Leroy Brown called both Jamie and who he believed was the friend, over to him and told them he had the stolen phone.
The Officer attempted to arrest Brown who resisted. Brown was taken to the ground by the officer when Brown's unleashed pit bull attacked the Officer and bit him in the face.
Brown tried to run but the officer restrained him and was then attacked by the pit bull on the upper right leg, then again on his left side.
The Officer was able to put the dog in a headlock while still maintaining control of Brown.
Back up was called and Brown was taken to jail, on charges of Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Official Business and Receiving Stolen Property. He was also issued a citation of Charging Dog at Large. The Officer was treated by the Chillicothe Fire Department Squad and ARMC then released.
The Ross County Dog Warden took the pit bull into his custody.
