County Recorder warns against paying

County Recorder Kathy Dunn is warning locals about a new solicitation letter trying to get money.

Locals have been receiving letters in the mail from an agency referring to themselves as the Local Records Office.

The company is offering to obtain a copy of the persons property deed for $89.00.

She said the mailing is made to appear as if it was from an official government records office.

Dunn says that "Copies of a property deed can be obtained anytime from the Recorder's Office at a cost of 10 cents per page, a typical deed is three pages and costs 30 cents. Any deed recorded after December 31 1973 can be viewed and copied for free from the Recorders website at landaccess.com."

She reminds land owners "That once their deed is filed with the Recorder's Office it is a permanent record of ownership and protects their property rights. It makes no difference whether they have a copy or even the original copy of their deed in their possession. Their rights of ownership are safe and secure."

Residents can call the Recorder's Office for further information or assistance at 740-702-3000 or to see a copy of the solicitation letter.

The Recorder's Office is located in the north end of The Ross County Courthouse in downtown Chillicothe and is open Monday -Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
