Crash on US 23 injures one

Car was trapped under the semi’s trailer.

One person was injured in a crash on US. 23 northbound at 7:58 Sunday morning.

Debra Lucas, 52, of Londonderry, was driving a 2001 Ford Escort northbound on US 23 a half mile south of the Main St. exit in Chillicothe. Michael W. Cole, 59, of Vero Beach, Florida was driving a 2011 Kenworth Semi  northbound on US 23. Both vehicles collided and Ms. Lucas’ vehicle became trapped underneath the semi’s trailer.

Scioto Twp. EMS crews had to mechanically extract Ms. Lucas from her vehicle. She was transported to OSU Medical Center by Air Evac with incapacitating injuries. Mr. Cole was uninjured.

Also present at the scene were the Chillicothe P.D., the Chillicothe F.D., and ODOT.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Highway was closed for about an hour due to the accident.
