The 16-year-old boy was a student at Chillicothe High School
Chillicothe Police have confirmed that a teenager critically injured after a fall from a "car surfing" incident Saturday night, has died at a Columbus hospital.
16-year-old Jacob Wolfe died just before 1pm Sunday at Nationwide Children's Hospital, due to head trauma.
Police were dispatched to the Wal-Mart parking lot at 9:36pm Saturday night, on a report of an injury crash.
Police discovered an 18-year-old was driving in the parking lot with Wolfe riding on the hood of the vehicle. The driver stopped the vehicle and Wolfe flew off the hood. The name of the driver was not released Sunday.
The fall resulted in Wolfe sustaining numerous injuries and was taken to Adena Medical Center and then flown to Children's Hospital. He was listed in critical condition, until he was pronounced dead at 12:49pm Sunday.
The incident is still under investigation.
Chillicothe City School Superintendent Jon Saxton had the following statement concerning the death of Jacob Wolfe....
"The Chillicothe City Schools mourn the loss of Jacob Wolfe, a sophomore at Chillicothe High School. We are saddened by this loss as we must now say goodbye to a popular student who was loved and admired by many. On behalf of the Chillicothe City Schools’ Board of Education and our Administrative Team I ask that Jacob’s family and friends be kept in your thoughts and prayers. Tragedies like this come upon us so suddenly it is difficult for us to process all that has happened in the past 24 hours or so.
Grief counselors will be in place at CHSon Monday morning and the local Fellowship of Christian Students will gather in the gym at 7:15am. As school convenes Principal Jeffrey Fisher will announce our plans for helping students cope with Jacob’s passing and this horrible accident. Students wishing to speak to counselors or to just have some time to reflect will be able to do so at school throughout the day. We appreciate the support of many in the community who have expressed their condolences to our Chillicothe City Schools’ family, and we extend our condolences to Jacob’s parents, Rebecca and Rod Cydrus, brother Grant Wolfe, and the rest of the Jacob Wolfe family. A prayer vigil will be held on Monday at Jacob’s church, Chillicothe Baptist Church at 6pm.
We ask that the Chillicothe community to keep our high school, its students, and Jacob’s family in their thoughts and prayers over the coming days as we deal with this tragic loss."
