Show runs till Oct 18th

A number of art teachers from Ross County have put their own works on display at Ohio University-Chillicothe's Patricia Scott Art Gallery.

The exhibit is called "Awakening the Artist Within" Susie Cunningham, a retired art teacher who has since returned to educate young artists at Bishop Flaget, says "We titled it Awakening the Artist Within because as art teachers we are always trying to bring the artist out of the children, and to teach them about all the art they can do..."

She goes on to say many of the teachers worked over the summer on their pieces, "It is really hard to create art when your teaching art, because your thinking so much about how am I gonna teach this student, you have to teach them about artists, you have to teach them techniques, you have so much thought about what your kids are gonna create, you don't have time for your own art."

The list of teachers include Adena, Paint Valley, Zane Trace, Bishop Flaget, Chillicothe, Unioto and Southeastern.

Admission is free.

The show will be on display through October 18th. A take-down show reception will be held on the 18th from 4pm to 7pm.
