The hospital is the first in southern Ohio to offer the procedure
Adena Health System is now offering robotic surgery to patients in south central and southern Ohio.
The Health System is the only hospital in the region with the state-of-the-art technology in which a surgical robot enables a surgeon to perform extremely precise procedures in areas of the body that are difficult for the human hand to reach.
Robotic surgery is used for many types of surgeries including: women’s surgery, prostate surgery, general surgery, lung and some heart procedures.
In a robotic surgery, the surgeon make incisions and places ports in the patient to accommodate the instruments placed in robotic arms.
From a console located next to the patient in the operating room, the surgeon manipulates the robotic tool, which mimics the physician’s hand movements. Because robotic surgery is less invasive, the body heals faster.
