Surgeons at Adena say the option has created a faster healing time for patients.

The Adena Regional Medical Center is now offering a minimally-invasive robotic surgery option to its patients. Surgeons at Adena have been using the $2-million piece of equipment to make more precise movements in the operating room since mid-October.

"It does not create as much abdominal wall trauma, so, therefore, the pain is less," said Dr. Bill Sever, "and we've really seen a return to function much quicker."

The surgical robot is operated by a doctor using a console and is mostly used for women’s surgery, prostate surgery, and some general surgery.

Adena Health System is the only hospital in the region offering the robotic surgery.
