Herbert Friedman was known for his generosity and service to the community.

A Chillicothe man who gave back to his community throughout the years passed away, Thursday, following an extended illness. 87-year-old Herbert Friedman is survived by his wife Bettie.

Friedman and his wife showed generosity to the First Capital District Chapter of the American Red Cross by donating the building which now serves as its local headquarters.

He also donated nearly 27 gallons of blood during his lifetime.

"It's just so hard to quantify what he's done for this community and what he's done for the Red Cross in general," said Red Cross Executive Director Mary McCord.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
