Walk away those holiday calories - as well as learn local heritage - at the three public areas of Hopewell Culture National Historical Park

The three prehistoric sites of Hopewell Culture National Historical Park are an ideal venue for holiday travel in the region.

On sunny winter days, walking among the mounds and earthworks of the Hopewell people can make for an enjoyable family outing.

During winter when the grass is low, some of the subtle remnants of Hopewell Mound Group and Seip Earthworks are more visible than in summer.  Mound City is the only fully restored Hopewell Earthwork - and as such is a national treasure.

The grounds of all three public sites are open from sunrise to sunset every day of the year. Come to the national park visitor center at Mound City for directions to the other open two sites.

The visitor center is open every day through the holidays except December 24 and 25, and January 1st...with normal operating hours 8:30am to 5:00pm.
