Winter returns with snow, sleet, ice, winds, wind chills, snow plows...
Fresh from the Christmas holiday, we head right into a major winter storm, with a Blizzard Warning for extreme western Ohio, a Winter Storm Warning for Fayette and Pickaway counties and a Winter Weather Advisory for Ross County, which is in effect from 1am Wednesday to 1am Thursday.
Even with up to three inches of snow and ice possible for our broadcast area - and wind chills as low as 50 below - we're still looking better than areas to the northwest.
Parts of Ohio are under a blizzard warning for parts of eastern and northern Ohio, including Dayton, Richmond, Connersville and Kenton - where snow accumulations could reach up to 10 inches.
Officials say driving conditions there will be "extremely dangerous,'' in the areas with blizzard conditions, with visibility near zero in blowing snow. Strong winds may down power lines and trees, and cause outages.
ODOT reports they will have just over 100 snow plows on duty by 4am Wednesday morning to keep roads safe and passable throughout their Central Ohio district.
Heavy snow forecasts of 5-8 inches of snow is expected in Franklin, Delaware, Union, Marion, Madison and Morrow Counties...while counties to the south, including Pickaway and Fayette, may be battling more ice and freezing rain.
High winds will also cause blowing snow especially in rural counties.
