The robber shot himself after apparently killing the residents near Orient
A robber committed suicide when spotted by deputies...after apparently killing the couple he was robbing near Orient, Saturday evening...according to the Pickaway County Sheriff's Department.
Eugenia Anderson,62, placed a 9-1-1 call at about 10pm from 5386 Fairfield Road, requesting help because of a man with a gun.
When three deputies arrived, they spotted Michael S. Melrose,41, carrying an armful of long guns from the back door of the residence. After being ordered to drop them, Melrose did so...but pulled out a pistol and shot himself dead.
Eugenia Anderson and Harry K. Butler,62, were found inside. Mr. Butler was found with gunshot wounds and bound in a front room. He died while being transported to a hospital. Anderson was found dead in a back room, partially bound and with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Pickaway County Sheriff's Department reports that the initial investigation shows that Melrose knew the victims and had worked odd jobs for them. The investigation continues through the Sheriff and Ohio BCI&I.
