While maintaining a 3.685 GPA throughout high school, Levi McFadden of Unioto High School still found time to help the environment.
McFadden was recognized June 20 with the Rumpke Ross County Scholarship. The $1,000 award was presented at Rumpke's Chillicothe office on Eastern Avenue.
In 2012, McFadden worked with Rumpke to coordinate additional recycling at the Ross County Fair, and plans are being developed for recycling again at the 2013 Fair.
Through his involvement in the science club at school, McFadden also taught lessons about litter control at the Unioto Elementary "Think Green Day."
Aside from being an environmental steward during high school, McFadden also was involved in tennis, track, swimming and soccer. He will attend the Ohio State University to study nursing.
The Rumpke Ross County Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at any Ross County high school pursuing a degree at an accredited institution. Last year's recipient was Allison Irvin of Unioto High School.
