Pike Crash Causes Traffic Jam

Authorities say all lanes of traffic were closed on US 23 north of Waverly, Monday.

Two people were seriously injured in an accident on Us Rt 23 in Pike County Monday afternoon.

The Chillicothe Post of the Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred at 4:20pm when a car, driven by 70-year-old Caroline Hamilton of Worthington traveled across the median into the northbound lanes and struck an oncoming semi.

The semi traveled over an embankment, where it began leaking diesel fuel.

US Rt 23 was partially shut down for over 5 hours while crews from ODOT and the EPA worked to clean up the spill.

Hamilton and her husband, 71-year-old Robert Hamilton, were taken by helicopter to OSU Medical Center in Columbus where they are listed in "serious" condition..

The driver of the semi, 54-year-old Douglass Kounse of Avon, Illinois, was treated at the scene.
