About 550-800 people sat in the CHS gym to hear Republican Presidential candidate Rick Santorum in his visit to Ohio's First Capital.
After Mayor Everson welcomed him on the eve of Statehood Day in the First Capital, Congresswoman Jean Schmidt and Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine also warmed up the crowd, with help from Ross County Republican chair Diane Carnes.
Using no notes - and joking about not using a teleprompter, at one point - Santorum spoke for most of an hour on familiar conservative themes...
...from Constitutional rights, to international relations and military stance, to when the economy would rebound with news of his election...his perspective on energy and climate change, and how he interprets meaning of the current debate on health issues...
The presentation was caught by more than 10 cameras, from central Ohio TV to international news media...including NPR, and Japan's version of NPR.
In addition, coal energy supporters greeted attendees in the lobby, buttons reading "don't believe the liberal media" were handed out in the audience, and a group of about 24 protesters at Yoctangee Parkway chanted "this is what democracy looks like."
