Police chief says he will resign

The Mount Sterling Police Department has been placed "on leave", according to Mayor Charlie Neff.

The announcement came Monday night during a village council meeting, where police chief Mike McCoy also announced he would be resigning, although not saying "when".

Charlie Neff, Mayor of village, says he put Police Chief Mike McCoy on administrative leave after McCoy tried to cover up an incident where he tased a juvenile for not obeying his mother to attend school. The mayor says McCoy tried to cover up the incident by not reporting it to his superiors.

Neff said that the entire department is "on leave" and that the Madison County Sheriff will take over law enforcement operations for the village.
