The indictment alleges Charles Harris, Jr., and Christina Briggs took drugs onto CCI grounds in February.
During its Friday session, the Ross County Grand Jury indicted two Columbus residents for taking drugs to the Chillicothe Correctional Institution. CCI officials had monitored calls and found that there was a possibility of drugs being tossed over the fence and into the facility. On February 18th, officials monitored a call from an inmate to 31-year-old Charles Harris, Jr., who told the inmate he was at CCI.
Authorities found Harris and 20-year-old Christina Briggs in a vehicle on the lot. Near Harris's seat was a football that contained tobacco, cigars, 32.75 grams of marijuana, 0.08 grams of heroin, and rolling papers.
Briggs was found with 6.99 grams of marijuana.
Both have been indicted for taking the prohibited items to a specific governmental facility, a third-degree felony, which carries a penalty of 1-5 years and a $10,000 fine. Harris, however, has been indicted on two counts.
All told, the grand jury returned 20 indictments; 2 were open.
