Unioto came up with an interception in the end-zone to hang-on for a 27-20 win
Unioto ran their record to (2-1) on the season in a see-saw affair Friday that had the opening kick-off delayed 45 minutes due to lightning in the area.
Once the game got started, it was action packed.
The Spartans grabbed a 7-0 lead to get underway, but had both teams going into halftime even at 14-14.
Unioto got their first lead of the game at 20-14, only to see Alexander come right back to tie at 20-20 with 4:50 remaining in the contest.
Unioto went right back down the field and scored the go-ahead TD when Jon Vanderpool ran 12 yards for the score and a 27-20 advantage.
A poor kick-off gave Alex the ball on their own 40, and drove down within striking distance for a possible tying score. On 4th down and the final play of the game from the Unioto 12 yard line, Unioto's Chaz Staten intercepted the Spartans pas in the end-zone and returned it to midfield to hold-on for the victory.
Jon Vanderpool led the way on offense on 28 carries and 168 yards.
