Unioto Hands Piketon First Loss
Piketon played without All SVC forward Zach Farmer, sidelined with an ankle sprain.

Heading to the holiday break, Zane Trace will stand alone at the top of the SVC boys basketball standings after the Pioneers topped Huntington 71-56 and Unioto beat Piketon 66-62.

The Pioneers are now (5-0/6-0) while Unioto and Piketon are (4-1/5-1).

At "The Oven" Tuesday, Piketon raced-out to a 25-17 lead midway through the second quarter, before the Shermans rallied to tie the game at 29-29 at halftime.

The Redstreaks grabbed a 34-32 lead early in the third quarter, only to see Unioto go on a 7-0 run for a 39-34 lead. They built upon that for a 50-43 advantage after three quarters, but Piketon put a run of their own together to take a 54-53 lead, before Unioto took the lead back at 58-54. Piketon tied the score at 61-61, but would be outscored 5-1 down the stretch to fall 66-62.

Unioto had three players in double figures, led by sophomore Nick Corcoran's 16 points, 14 points and 11 rebounds from freshman Erique Hosely and 10 points from sophomore Kyle Strange. Sophomore Nick Overly added 9 points while senior Chase Detillion scored 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Piketon saw senior Craigen Moore lead them with 22 points while sophomore Wyatt Brewster added 20 points and 6 rebounds.

Unioto went 20/45 shooting from the field- including 7/15 from the arc, while also connecting on 19/35 foul shots. Piketon shot 23/64 from the field- including 7/17 from the arc for 36%.

Unioto won the rebounding battle 38-29, but also had more turnovers 17-11.
