Lady Shermans Top Trace
Unioto remains in first place at (8-1) in the SVC

A 13-0 scoring run early in the fourth quarter proved to be the turning point in 41-29 win for Unioto over Zane Trace in Girls SVC Basketball Thursday. The Lady Shermans blew the contest open at that point, after being tied at 26-26 after three quarters and then with a 28-27 lead, made their big finish.

Zane Trace had the quick start to open the game, jumping-out in front 8-0. Unioto grabbed their first lead of the game at 15-14 midway through the second quarter. Unioto led 18-17 at half, and the contest stayed close until the 13-0 spurt put the game on ice.

Unioto was led by sophomore Alexis Overly's 10 points, followed by Ashley Flautt and Taylor Overly with 8 points each. Flautt had 7 rebounds and 6'1 Hannah Nelson blocked 5 shots.

Zane Trace was propelled by junior Kylan Strausbaugh with 10 points/9 rebounds. Jillian Pontius and Morgan Geno added 8 & 7 points respectively. Geno also added 7 rebounds.

Unioto defense also gets a big "shout-out" by holding the Lady Pioneers leading scorer Hayley Carle scoreless. Carle was averaging 14 points per game.



For the game, Unioto was 17/40- including 3/7 from the arc for 43% and 4/6 at the charity stripe. Zane Trace was 9/39- including 2/10 from the arc for only 23%. They were also 9/16 from the free throw line.

Zane Trace won the battle of the boards 29-26, but also had the turnover lead 8-7.

Unioto improves to (8-1/11-5) while Zane Trace drops to (6-3/9-6).
